Jayla Rodriguez, 18 of Birch Run High School hasn’t always had it easy. Jayla has had to experience rough obstacles at a young age, learning that you can either let them bring you down, or turn them into a lesson. When Jayla found out that she may not graduate with her friends, she decided to make a change. Her brother recommended that she try the Saginaw ISD Career Links program to help her bring her grades up.

Jayla has now been involved in the SISD Career Links program for over a year, and has shown impressive results. Jayla stated, “the staff pushes you, and they know if you are struggling.” Jayla also mentioned she was given that extra push to help her with her education. Jayla says she “would highly recommend this program because it helps a lot, and helped me get my grades up.” Jayla is proud of what she has been able to accomplish, and has plans to attend Delta College next year.

Mrs. Andrea is Jayla’s career manager, and she has been inspired by Jayla’s spirit.

“Despite rough situations and obstacles she came across during her teen years, Jayla not only survived the challenging circumstances, but came out of them smiling and more confident than ever before” states Mrs. Andrea. Jayla has a positive attitude, and sets a good example for all of her peers. “Her perseverance and determination have buffered and polished” stated Mrs. Andrea.

Jayla believes Career Links has been helpful to her future career goals, which include elementary education. Jayla attended a few Talent Tours which were at various colleges and universities. “I liked going for the college experiences because it shows you what college would be like, and it helps me to make a decision on where I want to go” sated Jayla. The Career Links program has also been helpful to Jayla in finding a job while she works her way through school.

We could not be more proud of Jayla for all she has been able to accomplish. As Mrs. Andrea states, “Jayla is a shining example of positivity that she brings to every situation in life.”

Good Luck at Delta College next year, we know you will do great things, Jayla!
